I have been making updates to my website recently, and it occurred to me that I never posted about my trip to New Orleans.
This semester, I was in Dr. Jennifer Dickey’s History and Memory class, which focused on the city of New Orleans as a case study. We read about the city’s history, watched documentaries on Katrina and plantations, and visited the city in person to better understand how New Orleans’ past is remembered in its present. As the final project, we curated an exhibit about New Orleans for KSU’s Sturgis Library. These photos show the opening last week. It was a lot of fun, and if you happen to be on campus I hope that you will stop by and see our work!
I was part of the team that wrote the panel on New Orleans tourism. A few photographs I took were used in the exhibit, along with some New Orleans related artifacts from my great-grandparents’ trips to the city. A few of my postcards and souvenirs from the trip were used as well.
Below are some photo highlights from the trip. I have broken them up by day.
Day 1: The French Quarter

Day 2: Uptown and the Chalmette Battlefield

Day 3: The River Road Plantations
