Thomas R. Marshall: Progressive Era Politics, a Presidential Hoax, and the 1920 Election
In late 2023, I submitted an article to the Kennesaw Journal of Undergraduate Research about Vice President Thomas R. Marshall. He was speaking in Atlanta when he was (incorrectly!) told Woodrow Wilson had passed away.
The article’s faculty sponsor was Dr. David Parker, and it was a runner-up for the Kennesaw State University Library System’s Undergraduate Research Award. The full article can be found by using the download button at this link: https://digitalcommons.kennesaw.edu/kjur/vol11/iss1/5/
This story was also told through the lens of Charles J. Haden in an article for the Oakland Cemetery Foundation: https://ajbramlett.com/oakland-cemetery/

The Seduction of Journalism in Atlanta: William Randolph Hearst and the Atlanta Georgian
My second article for the Kennesaw Journal of Undergraduate Research was on William Randolph Hearst’s connections to the Atlanta Georgian, a now-defunct Atlanta newspaper. The paper argues that, while Hearst purchased the paper in 1912, he was already involved as early as 1906.
The sponsor for this article was Dr. David Bennett, and it received KSU’s Undergraduate Research Award. The full article can be found by using the download button at this link: https://digitalcommons.kennesaw.edu/kjur/vol12/iss2/4/
