“Cobb Out Front in Bid for Stadium”: Professional Baseball and the Rise of Suburbia, 1957 – 1962

In the 1950s and ’60s, Cobb County attempted to build a professional baseball stadium on roughly the same site where Truist Park opened in 2017. Using this story, this article examines themes of civic boosterism, white flight, and the rise of Atlanta’s suburbs.
