This weekend, I was honored to attend the Georgia Collegiate Honors Council (GCHC) conference, held this year on the campus of Kennesaw State University. I had two research projects that I shared. One was an updated version of the poster on Georgia’s gubernatorial homes that I first presented last year, and the other was an all-new research paper on the death of William McKinley.
In this new paper, I used examples from my canvassing book collection to show how McKinley was marketed by traveling book canvassers in the wake of his 1901 assassination. The paper and PowerPoint can be found below.
It was great to meet students from across Georgia and hear about their research projects. The oral presentations I attended covered topics ranging from African Americans’ response to Italy’s invasion of Ethiopia, the process of adapting stage musicals for the screen, the history of the Blues and the genre’s use in the movie Sinners, and more. The conference also included a fascinating keynote on civility by Dr. Sonia Toson.
I am also excited to share that this project received the First Prize for Outstanding Essay in the Humanities and Arts Category as part of the GCHC’s essay contest!
